Secret Squirrel

For as long as I can remember, whenever my brother and I were getting together to surprise our parents, we referred to it as “Secret Squirrel.”

Whether we were treating them to a casino trip for their anniversary, or showing up for Mother’s Day when she thought I had to be in Decatur, my brother and I always work as a team to sneak up on my parents.

So when I was approached by a family of 8 siblings to do something special for their parents’ 30 year wedding anniversary, I couldn’t help saying, “OOOH, a secret squirrel!”

They had me put together a slideshow, starting with their parents’ wedding photos and moving¬†chronologically¬†through the arrival of each sibling. After their photos were through, each kid went on camera to say something nice and congratulate their mom and dad.

It was an absolute pleasure to put it together, because I know how much parents appreciate a personal gift. I already knew the family pretty well because I shot a wedding for one of the daughters last year. This year I’ll be shooting another, and I can’t wait to hang out with this family again.

So here’s the finished product. I don’t expect everybody to sit through a 20 minute slideshow of somebody else’s family photos, but it’s a good example of a simple, yet extremely personal, gift.

If you would like me to produce something like this for you, I would be more than happy to help other people surprise their loved ones.
